COMMON QUESTIONS

Our events are all about chilling out, letting go and escaping for a couple of hours of peace and quiet. So to better prepare you for our events here's a few questions we get asked:

Where are you?

All our events are run in Sheffield. We mostly work from a yoga studio in the South West of Sheffield, Yoga at the Reach.

What happens on an R&R event? I can't do yoga, I'm worried I won't be able to do it.

Your comfort and security is our priority, we recognise that in order to rest and relax fully you need to be completely at ease. With this in mind we begin with an introduction so you get to know us, then you are guided through a simple mindfulness practice to ease into the session.

You are then guided through a series of supported postures using blocks, blankets, cushions and bolsters. Each posture is aimed at gently stretching different muscles and fascia of the body. If you are uncomfortable at any time you are invited to gently move out of the pose or adjust your position to get more comfortable. You are always in control and can get up or move if you need to at any time.

After the physical postures you are then guided through a meditation using different techniques to deepen the feeling of relaxation in the mind.

Why are the classes different?

We have a holistic approach to relaxation. Although this is a physical practice we acknowledge that relaxation is about more than just the body and mind so we integrate essential oils, relaxing music and pay particular attention to the temperature of the room and the lighting to create the right environment for feeling safe and able to let go with ease. Reiki also facilitates calm and release on an energetic level for those able to enjoy a short session.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes that are warm. Layers can be useful so you can adjust if you're too warm or too cold.

Do I need any equipment? I don't have a mat.

We have all the equipment you might need, but if you would prefer to use your own mat or blanket you are always welcome to bring them.

Can I park at the studio?

Most of our sessions are run at Yoga at the Reach on Ecclesall Road, during the evening classes there is parking around the building that is free.

What if I'm running late?

Don't worry. Drop us a text just to let us know you're on your way. We prefer that you arrive at least 10 minutes early for your own benefit. This will give you time to find a spot and begin to relax. You don't want to be rushing to get to us and feeling stressed out as you arrive!

How much is the evening and how do I pay for Reiki?

You can book a space by visiting the Yoga at the Reach website, it is £16 without Reiki, the Reiki is an additional £7 cash charge on the night, but please email us to notify if you would like to reserve a Reiki treatment at restandrelaxevents@gmail.com.

What is Reiki? I've never had it before.

Reiki (pronounced “ray -kee”) is a safe, non intrusive hands-on healing technique for balancing the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Reiki is a Japanese word which translates into universal life force energy. During a Reiki treatment you will remain fully clothed on a treatment couch or chair (depending on your preference) whilst I place my hands in various positions on your body. You should feel relaxed and peaceful throughout the treatment and hopefully carry this with you following the treatment. You might wish to formulate an affirmation for me as the Reiki practitioner to focus on during your treatment and you can keep the affirmation in the days following the treatment.

The Benefits of Reiki:
Reiki helps to clear blockages in a person’s energy field working holistically to heal the whole person spiritually, emotionally, physically and energetically.

Physical:
Reiki supports the body’s own natural healing system helping to alleviate pain and rid the body of toxins. It can improve our “body wisdom” leading us to make healthier decision regarding diet, exercise and sleep.

Mental:
Reiki helps people to let go of negative thinking and promotes positivity, peace and serenity. It reduced stress and leads to a state of relaxation.

Emotional:
Reiki balances emotional energy helping to let go of emotions such as jealousy or anger whilst promoting loving qualities.

Spiritual:
Reiki is not a religious practice. It works on an energetic and soul level to help people become more accepting of themselves and others, promoting qualities of love, compassion and connectedness.
